The Perfect Place to Be

Fall is my favorite season. Gorgeous deep reds, oranges and yellows paint the skylines and the cool, crisp air rejuvenates the soul.

Well, somewhere it does.

You see, we live in South Texas. The only time we see leaves change color and fall is when they die.

I didn’t always live in South Texas. I was born in Kentucky, lived in Illinois for a while, and pretty much grew up in Michigan, all places where the weather changes. So, you can imagine my utter dismay when I moved to South Texas to never again see the beauty of the seasons.

Ok, it really wasn’t that bad. I did choose to live here, after all. Though if I was going to choose a place to live solely based on the beauty of the landscape it would be someplace like this:

Instead I get this:

It is at times like these when I find myself gazing longingly at unaffordable hand towels adorned with fall leaves at Kohls, thinking they may somehow fill that treeless void in my life.

It is at times like these when I need to remind myself why I am here, and try to look at the bright (though not so colorful) side.

So here are my top 5 reasons why I love living in South Texas.

5. We never have a deficiency of Vitamin D.

4.  We get to wear flip-flops year-round.

3. We have extremely pleasant winters.

2. The kids get to play outside year-round.

And the number 1 reason why I love living in South Texas:

This is where God has called me.

And that is the perfect place to be.
