Dear Friends and Family,
We want to start off by thanking you for the many years of prayers and support you have given our family. You have made it possible for us to spend the past 13 years serving together as a family in Texas, Mexico and Nicaragua. More than that, many of you have become dear friends to our family and we have so many cherished memories of the times we have spent together.
Towards the beginning of 2018 the Lord started moving in our marriage, family, and in our relationship with Him. God truly spent this past year working on our hearts like never before. As we grew closer to Him, both personally and as a family, we began sensing that He was moving us in a different direction. Toward the end of the year, we were certain that God had new things in store for us, but the Lord had yet to reveal His timeline or His plans. We prayed every day for God to show us the way He wanted us to go and to open the doors for us. We had a lot of big questions and a lot of unknowns, and we frequently put our “fleeces” before the Lord to make sure we were following His will, not our own.
One of our biggest questions was “when.” One more year? Two? We just didn’t know. This past May the Lord answered and we found ourselves looking at a much faster timeline. On August 7th, our family will be leaving Nicaragua, Way of the Cross, and we will be moving to Michigan.
I know there are going to be a lot of questions. Phillip has been the director of the Nicaragua base camp for the past four years, and we have loved our time serving here. The amazing staff here has blessed us beyond measure. They are not only staff; they are our friends. We are not leaving because of conflict. We love the ministry and the people we work with. We support the work the ministry does for the Lord. There truly wasn’t one specific thing that made us want to leave. It was a gradual pulling on our hearts and a belief that the Lord has something new in store for us.
So what are our plans? I wish I could give you all the details. All the things we will be doing and accomplishing in our lives are for the Lord to decide. This is truly a leap of faith for us, and we’re trusting in our Father to guide us. He knows what’s in store for our family, and He is our primary focus.
Phillip is working towards a degree in Computer Science and he will be working full time as I continue homeschooling our kids. It will be a difficult transition for our family. We are so used to being together and working together all the time. This lifestyle change has been the most difficult part for us to face, but we know that as long as we are walking in the will of the Lord that we will have joy and peace in our lives.
The kids are excited to be able to join up with a home school group, and I am excited to have some extra support in teaching our five children (homeschooling is unheard of here in Nicaragua, and I have only met a few other expats who home school their kids). Our family is excited to find a home church, though we plan to continue doing our family church that has sustained us through our time here in Nicaragua. There are many other things our family is excited about, and many things (and people) we will miss.
We appreciate your continued prayers for our family as we make this transition. Three of our five kids do not remember what it is like to live in the United States, and all of them have spent their entire lives as missionary kids. Anyone who has spent time with missionaries or has gone through this change personally knows that it can be a very difficult transition for a missionary family. We are trusting in the Lord and leaning on Him through it all.

Queridos amigos y familia,
Queremos iniciar agradeciéndoles por los muchos años de oración y soporte que han dado a nuestra familia. Ustedes han hecho posible que pasemos los últimos 13 años sirviendo juntos como familia en Texas, México y Nicaragua. Más que todo, muchos de ustedes se han convertido en amigos entrañables de nuestra familia y tenemos muchos recuerdos que atesoramos del tiempo que hemos compartido juntos.
Al inicio del 2018 el Señor empezó a moverse en nuestro matrimonio, familia y en nuestra relación con Él. Dios realmente trabajó este año pasado en nuestros corazones como nunca antes. Al acercarnos más a Él, personalmente y como familia, empezamos a sentir que Él nos estaba moviendo en una dirección diferente. Al final del año pasado, estábamos seguros que Dios tenía algo nuevo destinado para nosotros pero aun así el Señor no nos había revelado Su tiempo ni Sus planes. Oramos cada día para que Dios nos mostrara el camino que Él quería que siguiéramos y que abriera puertas para nosotros. Teníamos muchas preguntas y mucha incertidumbre y muchas veces pusimos nuestras “mantas” ante el Senior para asegurarnos que era Su voluntad la que estábamos siguiendo y no la nuestra.
Una de nuestras preguntas más grandes era “Cuando”, ¿Un año más? ¿O dos? Nosotros no sabíamos cuándo. En Mayo pasado el Señor nos contestó y nos dimos cuenta de que Su tiempo era más rápido. El 7 de Agosto, nuestra familia estará dejando Nicaragua, el Camino de la Cruz y nos moveremos a Michigan.
Yo sé que habrá muchas preguntas. Phillip ha sido el director del Campamento de Nicaragua por los últimos 4 años, y hemos disfrutado mucho nuestro tiempo sirviendo aquí. El personal aquí ha sido de gran bendición para nosotros. No solo son parte del personal sino que son amigos. No nos vamos por motivo de conflicto. Amamos el ministerio y la gente con la que trabajamos. Apoyamos el trabajo que el Ministerio hace para el Señor. Realmente no ha habido algo en específico que nos haya llevado a tomar la decisión de irnos. Fue un proceso gradual donde nuestros corazones estaban siendo llamados por el Señor y la convicción de que Él tiene algo nuevo reservado para nosotros.
Entonces, ¿Cuáles son nuestros planes? Quisiera poder darles todos los detalles. Todo lo que haremos y lo que lograremos queda a decisión del Señor. Este realmente es un gran paso de fe para nosotros y estamos confiando que nuestro Padre nos guiara. Él conoce lo que está guardado para nuestra familia y Él es nuestro enfoque principal.
Phillip está trabajando en completar su título en Ciencias de Computación y estará trabajando de tiempo completo mientras yo continúo impartiendo escuela en casa a nuestros hijos. Sera una transición difícil para nuestra familia porque estamos acostumbrados a estar juntos y trabajar juntos todo el tiempo. Este cambio en nuestra vida ha sido la parte más difícil de enfrentar, pero sabemos que mientras estemos caminando en la voluntad del Señor Su gozo y Su paz estará con nosotros.
Los niños están muy emocionados de unirse a grupos de escuela en casa, yo estoy contenta de tener apoyo para enseñar a nuestros cinco niños (La escuela en Casa no es muy conocida en Nicaragua, y solo hemos conocido a unos pocos que usan este método de enseñanza con sus hijos) Nuestra familia está emocionada por encontrar una Iglesia Base, sin embargo seguiremos teniendo nuestra iglesia familiar que nos ha sustentado durante nuestro tiempo aquí en Nicaragua. Hay muchas cosas más por lo que nuestra familia está emocionada, y muchas cosas (y personas) que extrañaremos mucho.
Apreciamos mucho sus oraciones constantes por nuestra familia al llevar a cabo esta transición. Tres de nuestros cinco hijos no recuerdan lo que es vivir en los Estados Unidos, y todos ellos han pasado sus vidas siendo niños misioneros. Todo aquel que ha pasado tiempo como misionero o ha pasado por un cambio de este tipo personalmente sabe que puede ser una transición bien difícil para una familia misionera. En todo esto estamos confiando en el Señor y apoyándonos en El.
